INSTITUTO CERVANTES


The Instituto Cervantes is, then, responsible for its own academic, administrative and economic management as well as the administration of the Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE). These are official diplomas that attest to acquired Spanish Language skills and are awarded by the Instituto Cervantes for the Ministry of Education and Science.

In 2000 the Instituto Cervantes, in response to the extraordinary growth in the use of the Spanish language worldwide and to meet the need to promote efficient, quality teaching of Spanish as foreign language, both in Spain as well as abroad, created a Network of Associate Centers. This is an accreditation system for public and private teaching centers, incorporated into the aforementioned network in Spain, which guarantees students of Spanish the quality of teaching and services offered by Instituto Cervantes Accredited Centers.

In order to receive the status of Accredited Center, centers must meet the requirement and condition established by Instituto Cervantes for their various areas of activity, such as legal, academic, those relating to installations and equipment, administrative organization and advertising.

The Instituto Cervantes carries out periodic inspection of centers to check the quality standards are being upheld and that the required conditions remain in effect.

The accreditation of centers and the increase in the official certification of language skills acquired by students of Spanish have became, therefore, strategies that contribute in an essential manner to fulfilling the Instituto Cervantes foundational aim of improving teaching and extending the study and use of Spanish with guarantees and quality.
